About the role
Under the supervision of the Shop Supervisor, this position performs maintenance, repair, and safety inspection of Department vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Perform mechanical repair ranging from tune-up to major overhauls on all types of vehicles, specialized equipment, and heavy equipment in the shop and in the field.
- Conduct annual preventive maintenance inspections, service, and repair of Department vehicles, specialized equipment, and heavy equipment.
- Test vehicles after repair.
- Support the Dozer Management Program and Ice and Snow Strike Team trucks during winter weather events.
The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those listed, and job descriptions may be modified based on Department needs.
Requirements
- Ability to read and speak English sufficiently to converse with the public, understand highway traffic signs and signals, and complete reports and records.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in basic automotive mechanical principles and repair.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must obtain a valid Class A commercial driver’s license (CDL) with tanker (“N”) endorsement within 180 calendar days of hire or promotion. Failure to obtain the CDL within this period will result in immediate termination.
- Must meet physical and mental requirements for a CDL.
Additional Information
- A pre-employment drug/alcohol test will be conducted after a contingent offer of employment or transfer.
- Subject to additional drug/alcohol testing per the ARDOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Program.
