Key Responsibilities
- Install, repair and maintain tires
- Service equipment by changing oil, lubricating moving parts, changing filters and making service adjustments
- Check vehicles for worn parts; report and repair as appropriate
- Steam clean engines and parts
- Assist mechanic with equipment repairs
- Make service calls for emergency repairs
- Report vehicles not conforming to safety standards and perform minor repairs
- Keep accurate service records on gas, oil, parts, etc.
- Perform required paperwork and recordkeeping in a timely, neat and legible manner
- Perform refueling of district vehicles as required; may be required to wash buses and pump gas
- Inspect, diagnose and make minor repairs on district vehicles
- Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
- Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment
Required Qualifications
- Two years’ mechanical and diesel experience
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License with clean driving record
Preferred Qualifications
- High School education or equivalent
- Valid, or ability to obtain, Arizona CDL license preferred

- Operates general shop equipment (i.e. brake drum lathe)

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- This position requires a range of physical abilities to perform the essential duties
- Physical Demands: Frequently pull, reach, push, bend, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and sit
- Uses hand and power tools that require good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Strong reflexes for steering, braking, and maneuvering the vehicle safely
- Speaking, hearing, and seeing (with or without correction)
- Maintains focus for extended periods
- Uses hand and power tools that require good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
- Lifting & Force: Constantly up to 30 pounds of force; Frequently up to 30 pounds of force; Occasionally up to 50-100 pounds of force
- Working Environment: Drivers work both inside the vehicle and outdoors when inspecting or fueling the vehicle; Exposure to fumes, dust, chemicals (e.g., cleaning solvents, oils, anti-freeze); Travel, odors, dust, and outside elements; Limited workspace, loud noises, and bloodborne pathogens; Indoor garage or workshop with exposure to noise, grease, oil, and mechanical equipment; Occasional outdoor work, especially if performing maintenance on-site (e.g., school parking lots or during road calls)
