Mechanic 1

Position Summary

Mechanic 1 - Provides assistance in the maintenance of the infrastructure systems; provides maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair services on all of the University’s heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems. Work schedule: Tuesday - Thursday, 11:00 am - 7:30 pm; Friday and Saturday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

Position Responsibilities

• Understand equipment and its use
• Read and understand blueprints and schematic drawings
• Aid with shutdowns of selected utility systems to coordinate with maintenance and construction activities
• Perform service calls for occupants throughout the campus
• Oversee trainees
• Perform daily inspections of utility systems in assigned areas of the campus
• Perform other job-related duties as required

Experience & Educational Background

A High School diploma and a related Trade School diploma. A minimum of 3 years of related experience is required.

Skills & Competencies

• Capable of lifting, pushing, and carrying various heavy tools, equipment, and materials
• Climb, balance, kneel, stoop, or crouch to gain access to pipes, valves, and equipment
• Use hand and power tools
• Adhere to operational safety rules and regulations as deemed by the University
• Possess good communication skills and the ability to interact with building/office occupants effectively
• Provide coverage on weekends and emergencies, including severe weather emergencies
• Have mechanical aptitude in servicing HVAC and building equipment
• Know proper and improper operation of heating and cooling systems and their components
• Be competent to start and stop various systems
• Know chemical treatment procedures and testing
• Have competence to operate boilers and associated equipment

Salary Range

Grade 3 1199 New Hire rate: $36.20 and 1199 One Year of Service rate: $36.93
