Meat/Seafood Clerk

About the role

As a Meat Clerk at Sprouts Farmers Market, you’ll work in one of the store’s most popular departments, providing a high level of customer service while practicing safe food handling and maintaining strong product knowledge and preparation skills. This hands-on role involves receiving, storing, and grinding meats; unloading and transporting fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry; counting and weighing incoming items against invoices; and rotating stock to avoid aging. You’ll assist customers with questions and special orders, guide them to products throughout the store, and uphold the “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs. The position requires strict adherence to all Meat Department procedural guidelines in a fast-paced, customer-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Receive, store, and grind meats; unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks
• Count, weigh, and verify incoming items against invoices; examine stored meats and rotate stock to prevent aging
• Provide prompt, friendly customer service; assist with questions, special orders, and product location
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and adhere to “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs
• Follow all procedural guidelines set by the Meat Department

Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent and basic math, weights, and measures knowledge
• Dependable, reliable, and able to work a flexible schedule that may include nights, weekends, and holidays
• Outgoing, friendly, positive attitude with strong customer interaction skills
• Good communication skills; ability to take direction and work effectively in a team
• Ability to perform general housekeeping: clean and sanitize tables, floors, walls, cases, cooler, freezer, and work area
• Adherence to all safety, health, weights and measures regulations, and company recipes
• Capable of standing for up to 4 hours continuously and walking up to 2 miles per 8-hour shift
• Ability to work in temperature-controlled areas and maintain department cleanliness
• Good vision required for using sharp knives, band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer
• Ability to lift/carry products horizontally/vertically between 25 to 90 lbs., from 4” to 60”, up to 10 feet for 20 hours
• Ability to use a pallet jack to move pallets horizontally up to 500 lbs. (requiring up to 85 lbs. force) up to 100 feet for up to 5 hours
• Ability to move racks of products weighing up to 70 lbs. (requiring up to 25 lbs. force) up to 50 feet for up to 10 hours
• Ability to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs. (requiring greater than 35 lbs. force) up to 2 feet for up to 1 hour
