Meat/Seafood Clerk

Responsibilities

• Provide a high level of customer service, including assisting customers with questions, special orders, and product location.
• Practice safe food handling procedures and maintain a high level of product knowledge and preparation techniques.
• Receive, store, and grind meats; unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
• Count and weigh incoming articles, compare results against invoices, and examine meats in storage to rotate stock and avoid aging.
• Knowledge of weekly ad items and ability to direct customers to products throughout the store.
• Perform and follow “Clean as You Go” and “Fresh at 4” programs.
• Adhere to all procedural guidelines set by the Meat Department.
• Perform general housekeeping in the department, including cleaning and sanitizing work areas (tables, floors, walls, cases, cooler, freezer, etc.).
• Maintain a positive, customer-focused work environment.

Requirements

• At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
• Dependable, reliable, and able to perform other related duties as assigned.
• Outgoing and friendly behavior with a positive attitude; ability to interact with customers.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
• Good communication skills and ability to take direction and work in a team environment.
• Adhere to all safety, health, weights, and measures regulations, and company recipes.
• Capable of standing for up to 4 hours continuously and a total of 8 hours per shift; walking up to 2 miles per 8-hour shift.
• Ability to work in a temperature-controlled area.
• Good vision for using sharp knives, band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
• Lift and carry products horizontally/vertically between 25 to 90 lbs., from 4” to 60”, a distance up to 10 feet for up to 20 hours.
• Use a pallet jack to move pallets horizontally up to 500 lbs., requiring a force of up to 85 lbs., a distance up to 100 feet for up to 5 hours.
• Horizontally move racks of products weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force up to 25 lbs., for a distance up to 50 feet for up to 10 hours.
• Move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force greater than 35 lbs., a distance up to 2 feet for up to 1 hour.
