Meat/Seafood Clerk
About the role
As a Meat Clerk at Sprouts Farmers Market, you will work in one of the most popular departments in our store. This hands-on position involves receiving, storing, and grinding meats; unloading and transporting fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks; counting and weighing incoming articles; and examining meats in storage to rotate stock and avoid aging. You will provide prompt and friendly customer service, assist customers with questions and special orders, and maintain a positive, customer-focused work environment. Knowledge of weekly ad items, product location, and adherence to "Clean as You Go" and "Fresh at 4" programs is required. This role demands following all procedural guidelines set by the Meat Department.
Responsibilities
- Provide high-level customer service and assist customers with questions, special orders, and needs.
- Receive, store, and grind meats; unload and transport fresh, cured, and boxed meats and poultry from delivery trucks.
- Count and weigh incoming articles and compare results against invoices.
- Examine and rotate meats in storage to avoid aging.
- Direct customers to product locations throughout the store.
- Adhere to "Clean as You Go" and "Fresh at 4" programs.
- Follow all safety, health, weights, and measures regulations, and company recipes.
- Perform general housekeeping in the department, including cleaning and sanitizing work areas (tables, floors, walls, cases, cooler, freezer, etc.).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- At least 18 years of age with a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
- Dependable, reliable, and able to perform duties as assigned.
- Outgoing and friendly behavior with a positive attitude; ability to interact with customers.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Good communication skills and ability to take direction in a team environment.
- Capable of standing for up to 4 hours continuously and 8 hours per shift; walking up to 2 miles per 8-hour shift.
- Ability to work in a temperature-controlled area.
- Good vision for using sharp knives, band saw, grinder, sausage maker, box cutter, wrapping machine, and tenderizer.
- Ability to lift and carry products horizontally/vertically between 25 to 90 lbs., from 4” to 60”, a distance up to 10 feet for 20 hours.
- Ability to use a pallet jack to move pallets horizontally up to 500 lbs., requiring a force of up to 85 lbs., a distance up to 100 feet for up to 5 hours.
- Ability to horizontally move racks of products weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force up to 25 lbs., for a distance up to 50 feet for up to 10 hours.
- Ability to move tables weighing up to 70 lbs., requiring a force greater than 35 lbs., a distance up to 2 feet for up to 1 hour.
