About the role
The meat specialist at Hy-Vee is responsible for cutting and merchandising all fresh meat commodities. They are part of a team that ensures customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
Responsibilities
- Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service
- Escorts customers to the products they're looking for
- Secures products that are out of reach
- Loads or unloads heavy items
- Makes note of and passes along customer suggestions or requests
- Answers the telephone and provides friendly, helpful service to customers
- Tenders, grinds, and cuts merchandise
- Prepares cutting lists for case fills
- Maintains strict adherence to department and company guidelines related to personal hygiene and dress
- Manages the department in the absence of the department manager and assistant department manager
- Wraps, weighs, and labels product
- Performs cleaning in the department
- Replenishes and organizes coolers
- Assists in other areas of store as needed
- Reports to work when scheduled and on time
Qualifications
- High School or equivalent
- Hy-Vee food safety training
- Over one year of related work experience preferred
Skills
- Solving practical problems
- Interpreting instructions
- Performing arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages
- Filing, posting, and mailing materials
- Talking with customers to identify their requests
- Guiding people and providing basic direction

Pay
The anticipated hourly starting wage for this position is $16.00 to $20.00 depending on experience.

This is a fast-paced work environment with exposure to various conditions including dirt, noise, temperature extremes, dampness, vibrations, equipment movement hazards, cleaning chemicals/solvents, and electrical shock.
