About the role

The Meat Cutter plays a crucial role in maintaining a clean and organized store environment, assisting customers, and ensuring the freshness and accuracy of meat products.

Responsibilities

  • Stocks meat cases and maintains product presentation, facing, filling, and organization as per Meat Department schematics.
  • Maintains cleanliness of meat aisles, storage areas, and workstations, including cleaning shelves and removing hazardous debris.
  • Monitors expiration dates of meat and seafood products and ensures proper rotation.
  • Assists customers with inquiries and purchases, providing product recommendations and cross-selling.
  • Inspects, logs, and receives shipments of meat and seafood products, ensuring accuracy and proper temperature.
  • Cuts, trims, and packages meat and seafood products according to Fresh Thyme standards.
  • Prepares specialty meat and seafood products using recipe standards.
  • Maintains proper safety practices and uses appropriate cutting accessories.
  • Participates in pre-inventory preparations, including backstock and verifying tags against products.
  • Sustains a high level of product knowledge and preparation.
  • Regularly walks the department to ensure an organized and clean appearance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years professional experience, preferably in grocery retail with meat department experience.
  • Previous experience in natural foods industry is a plus.
  • Journeyman cutter or apprenticeship completion preferred.
  • Advanced attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility to work varied hours and adapt to high-volume retail environments.
  • Basic knowledge of math, weights, and measures.
  • Skills with knives, tenderizers, grinders, and other meat machinery.
  • Expert packaging and wrapping abilities.
  • Understanding of COOL compliance for seafood products.

  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Adaptable to changing circumstances and problem-solving skills.
  • Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, driving, balancing, bending, climbing, crouching, squatting, kneeling, reaching, twisting, lifting, grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, pulling, and repetitive motion.
  • Environmental conditions may involve some extreme temperatures and ventilation/exhaust fans.
