If you have a genuine desire to help people live better and healthier lives, join Fresh Thyme Market as a Meat Cutter. You’ll keep store meat cases stocked and clean, assist customers with a friendly, energetic demeanor, and follow all procedural guidelines set by the Meat Department.

Responsibilities

• Stock meat cases, ensuring proper presentation, facing, filling, organization, tag, and pricing accuracy.
• Maintain cleanliness of meat aisles, storage, and work areas, including shelves, floors, and removal of hazardous debris.
• Monitor rotation of all meat products, paying particular attention to expired stock.
• Respond positively to customer inquiries, assist with purchases, and cross‑sell products at the meat counter.
• Receive, inspect, and log products for shipment accuracy, temperature, and quality.
• Operate equipment such as knives, scales, wrappers, compactors, garbage disposals, pallet jacks, and hand trucks.
• Ensure proper temperatures are maintained during production of meat and seafood items.
• Cut, tray, and package meat and seafood products required for the day.
• Organize, stack, and rotate meat products in coolers and freezers.
• Weigh and label meat products accurately, following proper dating and packaging procedures.
• Prepare specialty meat and seafood products according to Fresh Thyme recipe standards.
• Follow safety practices, including use of mesh gloves when using knives.
• Participate in pre‑inventory preparation, ensuring back stock and tags match products.
• Maintain high product knowledge and preparation standards.
• Walk the department regularly to ensure an organized, sanitary, and clean appearance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years professional experience.
• Preferred 2–3 years grocery retail experience in meat department processes and procedures.
• Experience in the natural foods industry is a plus.
• Journeyman cutter or completed apprenticeship program preferred.

• Proficiency with knives, tenderizers, grinders, and general meat machinery.
• Expert packaging and wrapping skills.
• Ability to cut and weigh various amounts of meat and seafood.
• Understanding of COOL compliance for seafood products.

Physical Demands

• Standing continuously for 1–8 hours.
• Walking continuously for 2–8 hours.
• Frequent balancing, reaching (forward & overhead), and twisting.
• Occasional sitting, bending, climbing (2–6 ft), crawling, crouching/squatting, kneeling.
• Lifting/Carrying: 0–10 lb occasionally; 11–25 lb occasionally; 26–50 lb occasionally; never 51–100 lb.
• Frequent right & left grasping; occasional fine manipulation, pushing, pulling.
• Exposure to extreme temperatures and ventilation/exhaust fans.

Pay

$19.50 – $22.00 per hour, with raises in accordance with Fresh Thyme Market’s plan policy and meeting or surpassing legal wage requirements for the location.
