The Meat Clerks play a vital role in delivering an exceptional shopping experience by ensuring that Lee’s Marketplace guests receive fresh, high-quality meat products, excellent service, and a clean, well-stocked department. This position is responsible for preparing, packaging, labeling, and merchandising a variety of fresh meat and seafood items, while maintaining strict standards of food safety, sanitation, and product rotation.
Responsibilities
- Cut, trim, and prepare various cuts of meat, including beef, pork, poultry, and lamb, based on customer orders and store requirements.
- Assist customers by answering questions about meat cuts, preparation methods, and cooking recommendations. Provide suggestions and help customers select the right products for their needs.
- Ensure the meat department is fully stocked with fresh products. Display products in an appealing and hygienic manner. Replenish stock regularly to meet demand.
- Keep the meat department, including workstations, utensils, and display cases, clean and organized. Follow all food safety regulations and proper hygiene practices.
- Monitor inventory levels, check for expiration dates, and rotate stock to minimize waste. Assist in ordering products as needed.
- Follow all health and safety guidelines, including wearing protective gear and handling equipment safely. Ensure compliance with all company policies and local regulations regarding food safety.
- Accurately package meat products, including weighing and labeling packages with the correct price and product information.
- Work closely with other meat department staff, store managers, and other departments to ensure smooth operation and customer satisfaction.
- Greet and assist guests in a friendly and courteous manner. Provide knowledgeable answers to guest inquiries.
- Promote and exemplify a high level of morale within the department and store, utilizing friendly but professional methods of honest and open communication with guests and team members.
- Stock shelves and maintain displays according to store standards. Ensure product freshness by rotating stock and checking expiration dates.
- Assist in unloading deliveries and organizing stock rooms as needed. Package and label products using a computer program.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area. Follow all safety and sanitation procedures. Report any safety hazards or equipment issues to management.
- Operate cash registers and handle transactions accurately, if applicable. Follow store policies on returns, exchanges, and refunds.
- Work cooperatively with team members to achieve store goals. Attend team meetings and training sessions. Assist other departments as needed.
Requirements
- 18 years or older.
- Flexible availability including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in food service or guest service (preferred).
- Previous Meat Department experience welcome.

Physical Requirements

- Manual dexterity for handling small objects and operating equipment.
- Repetitive use of hands and arms to push, pull, carry, lift, reach, grip, and balance.
- Occasionally stoop, crouch, kneel, or crawl.
- Prolonged periods standing and walking.
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the store.
- Lifting may include floor to shoulder and overhead lifting repeatedly.
- Occasional use and climbing of step stools or ladders are required.
