Mead Pre-K Teacher

About the Role

This position reports to the Mead Principal or Assistant Principal and involves conducting the Pre-K program in accordance with the policies and philosophy established by Ansonia Public Schools. The teacher will work collaboratively with Pre-K staff to address the needs of children, parents, and classroom staff.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and participate in the interviewing, assignment, and evaluation of classroom aides and assistant teachers.
• Organize all aspects of the daily program, including the daily schedule, classroom atmosphere, behavior management plan, and developmentally appropriate activities.
• Establish program goals and evaluate program effectiveness.
• Ensure the welfare of children in the classroom, tailoring the curriculum to individual needs, interests, and backgrounds.
• Maintain an adult-to-child ratio of 1:10 or better at all times.
• Assess children’s developmental levels through ongoing and formal evaluations four times per year.
• Maintain healthy and safe classroom practices, including universal precautions, First Aid, CPR, medication administration, and Epi-pen certifications.
• Prepare for and respond to emergency situations.
• Maintain required records, including the Professional Registry, Early Childhood Information System, attendance logs, daily plans, and children’s portfolios/assessments.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about the program, children’s progress, and special events through home visits, conferences, and ongoing updates.
• Participate in staff meetings, required trainings (e.g., First Aid, CPR, OSHA, diversity, curriculum and assessment), and professional development opportunities.
• Follow ECERS, NAEYC, and Pre-K policies/guidelines.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or Child Development.
• Certifications in First Aid, CPR, Administration of Medication, and Epi-pen.
• Experience working with Pre-K children and familiarity with early childhood assessment tools.

Pay

Salary is dependent on experience.

This is a full-time, non-union position.
