About the role
The William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home is seeking a MDS Coordinator-Registered Nurse to provide services in Temple, TX. The position focuses on delivering high-quality resident-centered health care, optimizing financial and clinical objectives, and coordinating clinical, regulatory, and reimbursement systems.
Responsibilities
- Participate in QOL, Q-Mix, and Triple Check meetings.
- Follow systems, nursing standards, and guidelines.
- Provide information and education on RAI/PPS/VA processes and their correlation to resident care and reimbursement.
- Coordinate and oversee the MDS assessment process to ensure accuracy and compliance with federal and state requirements.
- Timely and accurately complete residents’ MDS assessments and care plans and take follow-up action as necessary.
- Support the billing schedules and procedures.
- Be familiar with residents’ condition and care needs, and provide recommendations to address potential areas of concern.
- Conduct audits of EHR/documentation systems to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Interview and hire appropriate individuals to perform tasks under his/her supervision.
- Supervise team members' performance of assigned tasks in accordance with established procedures and policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the community administrator.
Requirements
- A current and valid Texas RN nursing license or a current and valid RN license from a Compact Party State.
- Familiarity with reimbursement systems of Medicare, Medicaid, and case management.
- Preferred skilled nursing facility experience as an MDS Nurse.
- CMAC certification or completion within 30 days of hire and renewal every 2 years.
- MDS coordinator must maintain current with the training (renewal every 2 years).
- Knowledge of state and federal regulations, both clinical and financial as it relates to the RAI process and reimbursement systems.
- Knowledge of the clinical software billing system and the MDS process.
- Proficient in the use of computer systems (WORD, Excel, EHR system, etc.).
Qualifications
- A current and valid Texas RN nursing license or a current and valid RN license from a Compact Party State.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS)/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required prior to performing work, preferably from American Heart Association (AHA), or have the ability to obtain certification within thirty (30) days of employment.
Skills

- Knowledge of the clinical software billing system and the MDS process.
- Proficient in the use of computer systems (WORD, Excel, EHR system, etc.).
