About the role

The Internal Medicine Physician is responsible for diagnosing and treating a variety of diseases and injuries in a community health center model setting, primarily focusing on the treatment and management of internal disorders and chronic diseases such as hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, and problems of the lung, brain, kidneys, and gastrointestinal tract of adult and elderly patients.

The Internal Medicine Physician provides comprehensive outpatient medical services for adults and elderly patients on a continuing basis and may extend care into inpatient and/or residential settings. The role also includes primary prevention using current evidence-based guidelines.

The physician may serve as a supervising physician for mid-level practitioners, authorizing prescriptions for controlled substances (Schedules II, IIN, III, IIIN, IV, and V), and providing clinical supervision and verification of medical assistants' (MA) clinical skills and competency.

At certain sites, the Internal Medicine Physician may also serve as the lab director for CLIA-waived tests performed in the clinic.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school
  • Board Certified in a specific medical specialty or have completed residency and be Board eligible
  • Must be licensed in the State of Hawaii
