About the role
Matterport is looking for a Software Engineer to join our Platform Engineering team. You’ll be building features and services for the Matterport Platform, which acts as the glue and entry point for all other Matterport products and services. We handle billions of requests each month, so you must be familiar with building services at scale. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment, pivot when needed, and have exceptional personal drive. This position is located in Irvine, CA and follows a hybrid schedule: Monday to Thursday in the office with the option to work from home on Friday.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and deploy new features and services
- Build features and services using Kotlin and front-end technologies
- Develop APIs, backend services, and integrations that support our products
- Work with relational and non-relational data stores
- Collaborate with a cross-functional team of product managers, designers, engineers, and QA
- Ensure proper monitoring and respond to issues with live environments
- Advocate for good engineering practices
- Contribute to a learning culture
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited, not-for-profit, in-person university or college
- A track record of commitment to prior employers
- 1+ years of development experience designing and delivering features and services in a cloud environment
- Experience developing SaaS solutions using modern OOP languages, such as Java and/or Server-side Kotlin
- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills in all areas of platform development
- Ability to work well in an agile environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with microservices such as Docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with relational databases such as MySQL or PostgreSQL
- Experience with messaging frameworks, such as RabbitMQ and Kafka
- Familiarity with Python
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch
- Exposure to non-relational data stores such as FoundationDB
- Familiarity with UI frameworks such as React or Angular

Pay
Base compensation: $119,000 - $154,000 annually.
