MATRICULATION LECTURER/TEACHER (DG9) - Department of Biology

About the role

The officer shall be a member of staff of the Centre for Foundation Studies, CFS IIUM to which he/she is assigned by the IIUM and shall perform teaching, examining, and such other obligations as are normally required of an academic staff member of the CFS IIUM. The officer should also undertake moral and religious obligations in relation to colleagues and students as part of their duties. The officer shall attend meetings as required by the IIUM Constitution, Statutes, or administrative actions. The officer is expected to engage in minimal research activities, participate in programmes, and contribute to the general life of the IIUM community. Additionally, the officer is expected to advise and guide students in relation to their character, behaviour, and moral conduct, serving as a teacher (Mu'allim), scholar ('Alim), and moral educator (Murabbi).

Responsibilities

• Preparing and delivering lectures, tutorials, workshops, and seminars.
• Developing curricula and course material that can be used across a number of platforms.
• Collaborating with other academics and lecturers to improve teaching methods and expand knowledge base.
• Setting and grading assignments, tests, and exams.
• Attending and participating in meetings, conferences, and other events in and outside of the institution.
• Participating in training opportunities and initiatives at the institution.
• Providing support to students and other colleagues.
• Staying current by reading widely and producing published work in the field.

Requirements

• A Bachelor of Science in a relevant discipline.
• Previous teaching experience would be advantageous.
• Published work would be advantageous.

• Strong interpersonal, presentation, and written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications

All candidates must have obtained credits in Bahasa Malaysia and English language (including oral examination) at Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) level or equivalent qualification recognised by the Government (for Malaysian citizens). Candidates must also meet one of the following language qualifications:

• IELTS Band 6
• MUET Band 4

Candidates without these qualifications will be required to sit for the IIUM English Language Proficiency Test.

Pay

Basic salary: Starting from RM2,580.00 to RM11,110.00 (depending on experience).
