Job Summary

The classroom teacher under the direction of the school principal is responsible for creating a positive learning environment where students develop critical thinking, problem-solving, lifelong learning, and citizenship skills. Teachers maintain a safe environment, establish rapport with students, parents, and colleagues, and motivate students to achieve academic and social growth.

Essential Functions

• Teach core content areas aligned with the USBE's Core Curriculum and approved learning activities.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, providing individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to student needs.
• Utilize effective teaching techniques to translate lesson plans into productive student learning experiences.
• Use computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction.
• Supervise students in various settings, including indoor and outdoor responsibilities, regardless of weather conditions.
• Evaluate students' academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
• Implement Proficiency-Based Learning in evaluating students.
• Communicate with parents through various means, such as conferences, phone calls, emails, and school website updates.
• Participate in faculty meetings and sponsor student activities.
• Maintain an effective learning environment through displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
• Ensure a safe and supportive environment in the classroom and on the school campus.
• Maintain professional competence through in-service education and self-selected professional growth activities.
• Administer appropriate student attendance policies and procedures.
• Participate in educator evaluation procedures as per district guidelines.
• Administer group standardized tests in accordance with state and district testing procedures.
• Participate in faculty committees and sponsor student activities.
• Select and requisition books and instructional materials; maintain required inventory records.
• Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and members of the community.
• Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
• Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and members of the community.
• Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
• Create an effective learning environment and handle classroom management issues calmly.

Required Training and Education

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
• A valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah within the relevant "Licensure Area of Concentration" and if applicable, "Endorsement."
• A Utah State Board of Education (USBE) approved cleared criminal background check.
