Mathematics Researcher | Remote
Contribute to research-grade physics benchmarks used to evaluate advanced language models. Solve, review, and validate complex physics problems across multiple specialized subfields. Work asynchronously with a fully remote, flexible schedule.
About the Project
The project aims to create a set of fully human-verified reference solutions for advanced physics problems. These solutions will be used to evaluate the reasoning capabilities of advanced language models. The project is expected to last 8-10 weeks, with a typical commitment of ~10 hours per week. Successful collaborators may have the opportunity to extend their engagement or participate in future projects.
Responsibilities
- Solve, validate, and document physics problems at the level of a first-year graduate student or higher in at least two of the following subfields:
- General relativity and differential geometry
- Quantum field theory and gauge theory
- Algebraic topology and homotopy theory
- Statistical mechanics and stochastic processes
- Differential equations and dynamical systems
- Review and correct existing problem solutions to ensure they meet the same rigorous standard
- Produce fully human-verified reference solutions that can be used to evaluate advanced language models
- Work independently and asynchronously with minimal oversight
- Communicate progress and blockers clearly in written form
Requirements
- First-author or sole-author publications in top mathematics journals
- A doctorate or postdoctoral training from a top-20 global institution in mathematics or a related STEM field
- A competitive fellowship or honor such as the Clay Research Fellowship or NSF Graduate Research Fellowship
- An NSF CAREER award or comparable grant held as a named Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator
- Current or recent experience in an active research role, such as a PhD candidate or industry research mathematician
Pay
$80-$135 per hour, with weekly payouts via Stripe or Wise.
Schedule
Fully remote, asynchronous work with a typical commitment of ~10 hours per week over an 8-10 week project window. Independent contractor engagement.
Benefits
- Independent contractor status with opportunities for project extensions
- Weekly payouts via Stripe or Wise
