Mathematics Instructor (Part-Time) Oakhurst Community College Center

About the Role

The ideal candidate will share the Oakhurst Community College Center’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. As of Fall 2017, the college enrolls over 1,000 students: 39% Latinx, 1% Filipino, 5% Asian, 3% Black/African American, 43% White, 2% American Indian/Alaska Native, and 5% multiracial. OCCC is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, reflecting its responsibility to the educational attainment and economic well-being of the surrounding community. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Responsibilities

• Maintain standards of professional conduct, ethics, and currency in teaching Mathematics.
• Teach developmental and transfer mathematics courses offered by the department.
• Use a variety of pedagogies and integrate instructional delivery systems, including technology for face-to-face, online, and hybrid formats.
• Communicate effectively with students.
• Use effective teaching methods appropriate to the subject matter, adhering to institutionally approved curriculum.
• Evaluate student progress through tests, examinations, written assignments, and oral responses in keeping with course objectives.
• Provide course syllabi to students.
• Maintain classroom records in accordance with District Policy.
• Submit all required student grading and evaluation reports in a timely manner.
• Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
• Teach in various instructional settings and times, including evenings, weekends, online, off-campus, and large group instruction classes as needed.

Requirements

• Master’s in mathematics or applied mathematics; OR
• Bachelor’s in mathematics or applied mathematics AND master’s in statistics, physics, or mathematics education; OR
• A valid California Community College Credential; OR
• The equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications

• Teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.
• Teaching experience in a breadth of courses and use of varied pedagogies.
• Demonstrated teaching ability.
• Willingness to teach online classes.
• Knowledge of current curriculum and assessment standards in mathematics education.
• Related work and professional experience.
• Experience in computer-assisted instruction and other instructional technologies.
• Ability to communicate effectively (oral and written) and maintain effective working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and administration.
• Ability to develop new and current curriculum focused on student learning outcomes.
• Experience working with students of various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Recent experience working with African American, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom, and understanding of historical patterns of exclusion in higher education.
• Willingness to examine and remediate instructional, relational, and classroom practices to support racially minoritized students.
• Experience and skill in addressing issues of equity in the classroom.
• Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth.
• Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Pay

Starting rates are $45.49 – $61.78 for lecture, $38.67 – $52.55 for lab, and $38.30 – $52.05 for non-instructional. Sick leave accrual is based on assignment hours.
