About the Role

This is a part-time, hourly position with a maximum tenure of 1040 hours per year. Under supervision, the role performs miscellaneous clerical, administrative, research, or other work related to the operation of a college unit. The position is based at the Learning Center of New York City College of Technology (City Tech) and reports to the Director and/or Assistant Director.

Responsibilities

  • Tutor students in select math courses: MAT 1190 (Quantitative Reasoning), MAT 1190co, MAT 1272 (Statistics), MAT 1275 (College Algebra and Trigonometry), MAT 1275co, MAT 1375 (Precalculus), MAT 1475 (Calculus 1), and MAT 1575 (Calculus 2).
  • Provide one-on-one or small-group tutoring, ensuring attentiveness to all students requiring assistance.
  • Attend monthly tutor coordination meetings and trainings as scheduled.
  • Document student attendance daily on a tutor log sheet and provide students with verification slips as requested.
  • Confer with the director and assistant director regarding students' progress and challenges.
  • Perform routine clerical work, such as answering phones, maintaining records, operating office machines, sorting/distributing mail, issuing keys/ID cards, and acting as a messenger.
  • Type letters, memoranda, charts, and similar materials.
  • Act as a cashier when required.
  • Assist in statistical or research activities, including data collection, coding for computer entry, data entry, and running reports.
  • Perform clerical library work, such as sorting/shelving books, data entry into library systems, or binding books/periodicals.
  • Assist in instructional programs, including tutoring in reading and mathematics, speech/hearing therapy, providing musical accompaniment, or distributing/collecting physical education equipment.
  • Enter and maintain departmental records, such as inventory control, rosters, directories, and schedules.
  • Operate computers, software, and other electronic equipment to perform assigned tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the director and/or assistant director.

Requirements

  • Must demonstrate sufficient skills to perform the duties of the assigned tasks.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or above preferred.
  • 3.3 GPA or higher in college mathematics courses.
  • Ability to maintain a consistent weekly schedule of a minimum of 5 hours for the entire semester.
  • Enjoy working with people and have considerable patience when dealing with others.
  • Ability to communicate adequately within the academic discipline.
  • Tutoring experience preferred.

Pay

$19.12 per hour.
