Position Summary

The Ethical Culture Fieldston School is seeking a full-time Math Teacher for the Middle Division for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will confidently teach middle school mathematics, including integers, order of operations, decimals, ratios, proportions, fractions, rates, percents, and more.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 4 total sections of math in grade 6, 7, or 8
  • Collaborate with colleagues, share resources, and communicate about curriculum and students
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about student performance and growth at scheduled conferences
  • Attend departmental and division meetings
  • Serve as an advisor for a group of 11-12th grade students
  • Address student behavioral issues and maintain a safe, calm classroom environment
  • Maintain accurate student records including grades and attendance
  • Encourage students' social and emotional growth
  • Maintain confidentiality of student information
  • Attend all departmental, divisional, and school-wide meetings
  • Comply with school policies, state regulations, and educational standards
  • Perform other related projects and duties as needed

Position Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or a closely related field required; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant teaching experience, preferably with middle school students
  • Ability to teach all areas of arithmetic, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra
  • Passion for teaching with a pleasant and positive demeanor
  • Positive attitude and ability to listen and accept feedback
  • Ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with faculty, administrators, students, parents, and the community
  • Commitment to cultural competency and fostering an inclusive environment
  • Ability to manage time effectively, stay organized, and prioritize tasks
  • Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to use varied teaching approaches and utilize new technologies
  • Reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance
  • Ability to cultivate a welcoming culture where all community members feel valued and appreciated
