About the role
The Geffen Academy Math Educator works under the direction of the Math Department Chair and Division Director. Responsibilities include creating a course of study, delivering instruction in up to five courses per term, and participating in school life.
Responsibilities
- Create and deliver an innovative secondary school math curriculum based on traditional textbooks and AoPS (Art of Problem Solving).
- Teach a variety of math courses for students in grades 6-12, including but not limited to Introduction to Geometry, Intermediate Algebra, Intermediate Counting and Probability, and Calculus.
- Engage students in exciting and interactive learning experiences.
- Collaborate with students and educators across different disciplines, applying math to fields like physics, computer science, economics, finance, history, and literature.
- Work with students of varying math backgrounds, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in a mathematics-related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Five years of successful experience as a classroom educator.
- A clear understanding and embrace of Geffen Academy’s mission, vision, and values.
- A sincere commitment to professional development in pedagogy and content area.
- A passion for innovation, design thinking, and its application to the real world.
- Proven ability to develop and implement effective curricula.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in various instructional and co-curricular roles within a secondary school.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Able to develop and sustain effective working relationships with colleagues and staff.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in mathematics or related field preferred.
- Strong background in secondary or university-level education.
- Passionate about teaching and committed to fostering a love of mathematics in all students.
- Self-motivated and able to adapt to a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
