About the role
As a Materials Transfer Driver with the Facilities Management Division, you will serve as a vital link for state government operations. Roughly 60% of your day will be spent safely driving a state vehicle to collect and deliver mail across participating state agencies, the legislature, and the general public. When not driving, you will work in the high-energy central mail hub operating postal machinery and sorting/processing outbound USPS mail.
Responsibilities
- Drive a state box van to pick up and deliver mail among state agencies, the legislature, and the public.
- Operate motorized vehicle tailgates in various weather conditions.
- Log and retrieve inventory specifications using basic computer applications (email, spreadsheets, word processing).
- Operate and maintain mailing equipment such as mail inserting machines.
- Sort and process outbound USPS mail in compliance with postal regulations and discount-price requirements.
- Use electric warehouse equipment (e.g., electric pallet jacks, small electric tools).
- Maintain accurate records, manuals, and data files to ensure mail acceptance by USPS.
- Provide customer service to develop effective working relationships with agency staff and the public.
Requirements
- Valid Minnesota Class C Driver’s License (CDL) and acceptable driving record.
- Experience operating a large box van and motorized tailgates.
- Basic computer skills (email, word processing, spreadsheets).
- Data entry and inventory management skills.
- Ability to operate mailing equipment and maintain records.
- Pass a pre-employment physical (CRT test minimum: medium-heavy—able to lift 31–45 lbs frequently, 100–300 reps per hour), DOT drug screen, criminal background check, employment reference checks, and driver’s license check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience operating and maintaining mail inserting machines.
- Knowledge of USPS regulations, discount postal prices, and required paperwork/data files.
- Experience with electric pallet jacks and small electric tools.
Pay
$24.49 – $28.01/hour ($51,135 – $58,484/year).
