About the role
This is an entry-level role built for someone who wants to learn the fundamentals of polymer formulation and materials testing in a fast-moving additive manufacturing environment. You'll work closely with our scientists day-to-day, helping move formulation projects forward while keeping our lab running smoothly and safely.
Responsibilities
- Formulation Support: Assist scientists with the preparation, weighing, and mixing of resin formulations following strict written protocols.
- Sample Preparation: Prepare samples for testing, which includes 3D printing, post-processing, and standard specimen preparation.
- Testing & Analysis: Set up, run, and record results from routine materials tests (including mechanical, thermal, and rheological testing).
- Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date lab notebooks and digital data records.
- Inventory & Lab Ops: Monitor and organize lab consumables and reagents; proactively flag restocking needs and help maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace.
- Equipment Care: Clean, calibrate, and perform basic troubleshooting and maintenance on lab equipment.
- Safety Compliance: Strict adherence to all lab safety procedures, chemical handling guidelines, and hazardous waste disposal protocols.
- Hazardous Waste: Ensure all wastes are properly labeled with waste type, date of accumulation and any mandatory hazardous signals.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; coursework or an Associate’s/Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, materials science, or a related field is a plus, but not required.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow technical written protocols precisely.
- Excellent organizational habits and reliable, structured record-keeping.
- Comfortable working hands-on with chemicals and laboratory equipment.
- A collaborative attitude and an eagerness to learn from scientists and senior team members.
- Ability to work onsite 5 days a week in a lab environment.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and safely lift/move lab materials (up to 30 lbs).
Qualifications
- Nice to have: Any prior lab experience, whether formal or informal (school chemistry labs, maker spaces, or hands-on hobby projects); familiarity with basic lab safety practices (GHS labeling, Safety Data Sheets [SDS], and PPE); prior exposure to or hobbyist experience with 3D printing.
