We are seeking a Materials Procurement Engineer to join our Advanced Technologies (AT) group in Lynchburg, VA. The successful candidate will be responsible for interfacing with suppliers, developing procurement strategies, and ensuring the quality and compliance of subcontracted parts and assemblies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and execute Commercial Grade Dedication Plans
  • Serve as the primary technical interface with suppliers for the fabrication of subcontracted parts and assemblies
  • Collaborate with Design, Manufacturing Engineers, QA, QC, etc. to analyze new requirements
  • Develop procurement strategies and packages including applicable design information, drawings, material properties, verification requirements from test, inspection requirements, quality and regulatory requirements
  • Verify the acceptability of sublet components and work closely with suppliers, manufacturing, quality and design personnel to resolve issues
  • Review and analyze design, contract, and drawing specifications
  • Prepare technical ordering requirements for subcontract material and assemblies used in the fabrication of nuclear pressure vessels and other special purpose components
  • Lead internal technical teams when preparing and evaluating work completed by the suppliers
  • Verify that supplier fabrication processes, procedures, and delivered components meet ordering requirements
  • Review and disposition supplier-generated procedures and certifications
  • Participate in supplier audits, surveillance, and observe operations at suppliers
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Quality and other Engineering Disciplines to develop and qualify new suppliers
  • Evaluate and contribute to disposition of discrepant material
  • Review certifications and perform technical releases on acceptable material
  • Assist in the development of cost estimates in support of proposals

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or physics is required
  • A minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience is required
  • Must be able to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely written and verbal communication including technical reports and presentations
  • Must be able to learn and gain expertise in supplier methods and processes, including product quality processes
  • Must have strong interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to develop effective relationships with internal and external customers and suppliers
  • Travel (10-20%) domestic and international is required
  • Must be a U.S. citizen
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance, whichever is required

Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include experience in commercial grade dedication, NQA-1, and ASME BPVC.

Pay

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $79,000.00 and $119,000.00 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.

Schedule

Travel (10-20%) domestic and international is required.
