Job Description
The Sr. Technician will conduct testing/experiments, write technical reports, support test request workflows, operate equipment, ensure compliance with client quality policies, support lab audits, maintain equipment calibration, and manage lab supplies.
- Performs batch mixing, compounding, and extruding of various material types
- Interprets data to draw conclusions, identify trends, and provide solutions
- Involved in problem-solving and improving test plans
- Oversees lab supplies stock and reordering, acts as primary purchase order processor
- Manages chemical inventory and MSDS upkeep, ensures timely removal of expired chemicals
- Able to find common ground within a team to optimize problem-solving outcomes
- Communicates relevant and accurate information in a timely manner to enable effective decision-making
- Sets up materials lab capability operating procedures
- Coordinates equipment upgrades and installations
- Develops and maintains fixtures
- Executes Continuous Improvement projects in areas such as equipment troubleshooting, method establishment, and fixture development
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in a Science or Engineering discipline with at least 2 years of laboratory experience
- Knowledge of mechanical measurement equipment (e.g., Instron) and two or more materials characterization capabilities (e.g., FTIR, DSC, TGA)
- Experience with polymer compounding (extrusion, batch mixing) and polymer processing (Injection Molding, compression molding, batch mixing)
- Superior communication skills, both written and oral
- Proficient in MS Office applications
- Knowledge of statistical analysis desirable
- Superior attention to detail
- Understanding of regulatory and quality requirements and external regulations (ISO, FDA, OSHA, ASTM)
- Maintains good laboratory practices
Skills
- Technical knowledge of small hand tools and/or precision devices to aid in testing
- Technical knowledge of other common lab instrumentation and equipment
- Accountability for lab operations, calibration, and equipment maintenance
- Ability to mentor/supervise junior technicians
