Job Description

The Sr. Technician will conduct testing/experiments, write technical reports, support test request workflows, operate equipment, ensure compliance with client quality policies, support lab audits, maintain equipment calibration, and manage lab supplies.

  • Performs batch mixing, compounding, and extruding of various material types
  • Interprets data to draw conclusions, identify trends, and provide solutions
  • Involved in problem-solving and improving test plans
  • Oversees lab supplies stock and reordering, acts as primary purchase order processor
  • Manages chemical inventory and MSDS upkeep, ensures timely removal of expired chemicals
  • Able to find common ground within a team to optimize problem-solving outcomes
  • Communicates relevant and accurate information in a timely manner to enable effective decision-making
  • Sets up materials lab capability operating procedures
  • Coordinates equipment upgrades and installations
  • Develops and maintains fixtures
  • Executes Continuous Improvement projects in areas such as equipment troubleshooting, method establishment, and fixture development

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Science or Engineering discipline with at least 2 years of laboratory experience
  • Knowledge of mechanical measurement equipment (e.g., Instron) and two or more materials characterization capabilities (e.g., FTIR, DSC, TGA)
  • Experience with polymer compounding (extrusion, batch mixing) and polymer processing (Injection Molding, compression molding, batch mixing)
  • Superior communication skills, both written and oral
  • Proficient in MS Office applications
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis desirable
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Understanding of regulatory and quality requirements and external regulations (ISO, FDA, OSHA, ASTM)
  • Maintains good laboratory practices

Skills

  • Technical knowledge of small hand tools and/or precision devices to aid in testing
  • Technical knowledge of other common lab instrumentation and equipment
  • Accountability for lab operations, calibration, and equipment maintenance
  • Ability to mentor/supervise junior technicians
