About the Opportunity
The Materials Manager is responsible for sourcing, developing, testing, and commercializing materials and trims that align with the product range's design, performance, cost, and quality goals. This role ensures timely materials delivery, maintains accurate product development data, manages vendor relationships, and supports cross-departmental collaboration. The position plays a key role in advancing sustainability targets and aligning materials strategy with market objectives.
Responsibilities
- Curate and maintain a library of high-quality performance materials and trims
- Source fabrics and trims meeting design, technical, and cost requirements; manage print development processes
- Collaborate with suppliers to develop new materials and innovations; manage supplier relationships
- Manage seasonal materials timelines from selection to production readiness
- Maintain accurate material records in PLM systems and conduct seasonal data audits
- Handle material costing, staging, and sample coordination
- Validate material test reports and support sustainability certification audits
- Support accuracy of wholesale workbooks and technical information
- Participate in product development processes including BOM reviews and production milestones
- Educate teams on material features and seasonal stories
- Support auxiliary product ranges and maintain connection to full offerings
- Manage product development budget contributions to financial goals
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or progress toward a degree in Textile Science, Apparel Design, Product Development, or similar
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in materials development and testing within apparel or related industries
- Technical knowledge of fabric performance across various materials including wovens, knits, down, and synthetics
- Proven experience in material commercialization with punctual delivery
- Familiarity with PLM systems (preferably Centric) and data management best practices
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across functions
Pay Range and Compensation Package
The base salary range is $80,000 to $90,000, with actual pay dependent on experience, skills, and qualifications.
