About the Role
Supervise, assign, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for material management activities within an assigned department, including purchasing activities, fleet salvage procedures, and parts inventory. Ensure work quality and adherence to established policies and procedures while performing technical and complex tasks.
Responsibilities
- Plan, prioritize, assign, supervise, review, and participate in the work of staff responsible for materials management activities, including purchasing, fleet salvage procedures, and parts inventory.
- Establish schedules and methods for providing material management services; identify resource needs and allocate resources accordingly.
- Participate in the development and monitoring of policies and procedures; recommend improvements to existing standards.
- Recommend and assist in the implementation of goals and objectives; implement approved policies and procedures.
- Perform technical and complex tasks, including contract management and compliance monitoring.
- Coordinate purchasing activities; prepare and submit orders for supplies; receive, log, and store supplies.
- Oversee fleet salvage processes; monitor vehicle transport and log buy-out fees; utilize funds for replacement vehicles.
- Develop and coordinate parts inventory requirements through fleet and inventory analysis; develop specifications for vehicles, equipment, services, and parts.
- Establish and monitor parts and service contracts for maintenance and procurement of automotive/equipment replacement parts.
- Develop and implement procedures for vendor relations, customer relations, contract compliance, and materials management.
- Perform component failure analysis and negotiate warranty claims with manufacturers.
- Oversee and perform routine inventory procedures; maintain records of equipment status.
- Review and evaluate purchased equipment, tools, and materials to ensure compliance with contract specifications.
- Research and resolve invoice payments and contract compliance issues; audit department expenditures.
- Participate in staff selection, training, and discipline procedures.
- Participate in budget preparation and administration; monitor expenditures.
- Prepare analytical and statistical reports on operations and activities.
- Attend professional meetings to stay updated on trends and innovations in materials management.
- May require 24/7 on-call availability.
- Perform related duties as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in business administration, fleet, or transportation management.
- Four (4) years of materials management experience, including two (2) years of supervisory experience.
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver’s License or ability to obtain by date of hire.
- Possession of a City Operator’s Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Working Conditions
Environmental: Normal office environment; warehouse environment with exposure to computer screens, noise, fumes, and odors.
Physical: Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for light to moderate lifting and carrying, as well as standing, walking, and sitting for prolonged periods.
