Materials Manager

About the role

The Materials Manager oversees and coordinates all material/supply chain management activities for the business, including purchasing, inventory control, production control, scheduling, planning, warehouse, shipping, and customer delivery support. Reporting directly to the PDS Director of Operations, the role involves managing various functional areas within Materials/Supply Chain.

Responsibilities

• Understand and apply principles, concepts, practices, and standards for material management with a full and competent knowledge of industry and company practices.
• Develop a purchasing model for the organization and related support functions that can be used to analyze and track historical costs as well as reduce future spending.
• Analyze changes or new issues in materials and supplies to find ways to reduce costs and improve quality.
• Prepare a monthly set of management reports to track and control major expense categories.
• Interface with third-party vendors to minimize and control the cost of goods and services.
• Develop third-party supplier agreements such as vendor managed inventory and other arrangements as required by the business.
• Aid with departmental budget/forecast preparation with a constant focus on streamlining costs and improving efficiencies.
• Manage the setting and achievement of department goals and objectives to align with overall company goals.
• Directly supervise employees on the materials team. Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Business or related discipline is highly desired with 5 years of supply chain/materials management experience.
• Very analytical and metric focused.
• Proven leadership and management experience in Purchasing or Materials.
• Demonstrated skills in the areas of problem solving/reasoning, communication, leadership, and ability to operate at a level that meets the scope and impact required for the team and company.
• Thorough understanding of Engineering and Manufacturing Bills of Material and capability to perform requirements analysis and reconciliation of both make and buy components.
• Experience must include negotiation and bid and cost proposal experience.
• The ability to clearly convey information orally and in writing.
• Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems. Experience with Oracle a plus.
• Critical skill sets include the ability to collaborate cross-functionally, build consensus, shape/influence opinion, and develop and articulate the future state.
• Leverage Lean, Six Sigma, and Continuous Improvement Methodologies.
• Travel: up to 10%
