Materials Management Specialist 1

About the Role

The Logistics - Materials Management (LOG-MM) Group is the central organization responsible for the logistics, distribution, transportation, traffic management, receiving, and acceptance of all material goods between Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and external customers. The Shipping Traffic team within LOG-MM supports LANL programs in logistics, transportation, and traffic management of all material goods. The Materials Management Specialist 1 will work under the direct supervision of the Shipping Team Leader to support LANL Shipping and Traffic logistics.

Responsibilities

• Operate forklifts of various capacities and material handling equipment.
• Work with computer applications for logistics and transportation management.
• Communicate with customers, peers, and various levels of management.
• Coordinate and schedule pick-ups of shipments with external vendors.
• Package and prepare material for shipping.
• Facilitate shipments from cradle to grave.
• Prepare all documentation in compliance with regulations for shipments.
• Assist with various operational duties.

Requirements

• Experience with the logistical requirements and documentation of arranging and coordinating shipments, including small parcels (e.g., FedEx), Less Than Truckload Shipments, and Truckload Shipments.
• Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through to completion on multiple tasks, often under strict deadlines, frequent interruptions, and changing priorities.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including a commitment to teamwork, mentoring, and encouraging open communication.
• Strong customer service skills.

Qualifications

Position requires a minimum of 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with obtaining rate quotes.
• Experience or knowledge with Traffic/Shipping Operations at a DOE/NNSA contractors' facility.
• Familiarity with specific computer-based systems including Oracle, ATLAS, FedEx Manager, and other LANL/DOE-based computer application systems.
• Knowledge of LANL programs, sites, and facilities.
• Experience operating material handling equipment.
• Active LANL forklift certification.
• Active Department of Energy "Q" clearance.

Work Location

This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment

Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. The position commitment for this role is one year.

Additional Details

This position requires a Q clearance. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Obtaining such clearance requires U.S. citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
