Materials Handler

Schwarze Industries (member of the Alamo Group Inc.) is seeking a Materials Handler for its Huntsville, AL facility.

About the role

Performs a combination of tasks: receive, ship, and/or store component parts and materials for manufacturing operations. Uses production schedules, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed. May be assigned to one particular work center or various work centers.

Responsibilities

• Assembles orders, fills requisitions, work orders, etc., and moves and/or distributes materials to shipping department, trucks, or production.
• Performs material receiving functions: identifies, records, labels, and places materials into stock; follows up with appropriate paperwork including purchase orders and RMAs.
• Marks materials with identifying information using RF barcode labels, paint, or other marking devices.
• Records amounts of materials or items received or distributed by processing issues, transfers, receipts, or sales orders; keys transactions into RF handheld or desktop computer.
• Ships whole goods/parts to destination and/or moves within production area; packages and labels materials. May operate shipping company software systems.
• Operates forklift as required.
• Accurately records work order information and inventory transactions.
• Uses computer to access information or verify data.
• May load and transport materials using company vehicle; may pick up and deliver parts/supplies from local vendors.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required.
• One to six months of previous material handling experience.
• Ability to operate a forklift and hoist safely.
• Basic math skills and computer data entry skills.
• Must be physically capable of lifting 50 pounds alone and 100 pounds with assistance.
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Able to work overtime to meet production deadlines.
• Able to work under pressure.
• Able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including steel toe shoes.
