Materials Handler

About the role

Receive, stage, issue, and deliver materials within the facility to support production schedules and customer orders. Follow detailed instruction and established procedures. Operate forklift, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and ensure equipment is in good working order. Load and unload material from trucks and containers. Perform cycle counts, assist with physical inventories, and reconciling of discrepancies. Enter inventory transactions accurately into ERP/MRP systems or scanning devices. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing principles.

Responsibilities

• Inspect incoming materials for damage or discrepancies and report issues
• Assist with maintaining accurate inventory and material movement documentation
• Report issues and participate in root cause analysis for material discrepancies
• Adhere to safety protocols and utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and proper lifting technique
• Maintain clean, organized and safe work areas where material is stored and moved out on the production floor
• Maintain awareness and report to leaders' potential safety hazards
• Work closely with team members, supervisors, engineers, and quality control personnel to address challenges and improve processes
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to report issues and provide updates
• Maintain a clean and organized workspace
• Store tools and equipment properly
• Work overtime as needed to meet production goals
• Crosstrain in other areas and adjust to new processes or technologies

Qualifications

• Education: High School Diploma or GED
• Experience: Forklift operations; 1 year of material handling and inventory experience; familiarity with material handling and inventory control; basic computer literacy
• Communication: Effective communication skills (verbal and written)
• Material Movement: Ability to use proper lifting techniques and material movement equipment effectively
• Quality Control: Ability to review material to ensure it meets quality standards
• Problem-Solving: Identifying issues and communicating to leader
• Safety Awareness: Following safety protocols and maintaining hazard awareness
• Teamwork: Collaborating effectively with all employees
• Adaptability: Ability to be flexible in role, adjusting to new processes, technologies, or production requirements

Physical Demands

• Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle material and parts
• Repetitive Motion: Perform repetitive motions such as bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping, lifting, gripping, and grasping with hands
• Standing Duration: Ability to stand for up to 10 hours per shift
• Lifting Requirements: Ability to lift up to 35 lbs
• Environmental Exposure: Ability to work in environments with noise, chemicals, dust, sharp objects, moving/rotating mechanical parts, and temperature extremes

Pay

Expected Base Hourly Range: $18.00 - $22.00
