The cell materials development team at Tesla is seeking a skilled Materials Engineer to lead the development of materials for the company's next-generation cell design. This role involves owning, testing, and validating materials designs and concepts that align with performance requirements and launch timelines. Key responsibilities include:
- Identifying and evaluating new and existing materials, designs, and components
- Developing and executing laboratory experiments, materials formulation, and characterization
- Cell testing to inform performance, reliability, manufacturability, and value
- Closely collaborating with cell design team to develop innovative materials solutions
- Managing relationships with external vendors, suppliers, and research partners to source, qualify, and implement cutting-edge materials technologies
Qualifications
- Advanced degree or equivalent experience in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field
- Strong foundational knowledge in materials science, electrochemistry, and energy storage devices
- Experience with battery cell development, focusing on optimizing performance, cost, and manufacturability
- Hands-on experience with materials formulation and characterization in the lab
- Experience with prismatic cells is a plus
