Responsibilities

The Material Specialist will be responsible for material movement, quality assurance, safety compliance, collaboration and communication, and workspace maintenance.

  • Receive, stage, issue, and deliver materials within the facility to support production schedules and customer orders.
  • Follow detailed instructions and established procedures.
  • Operate forklift, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and ensure equipment is in good working order.
  • Load and unload material from trucks and containers.
  • Perform cycle counts, assist with physical inventories, and reconciling of discrepancies.
  • Enter inventory transactions accurately into ERP/MRP systems or scanning devices.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing principles.
  • Report inventory discrepancies to supervisors.
  • Inspect incoming materials for damage or discrepancies and report issues.
  • Assist with maintaining accurate inventory and material movement documentation.
  • Report issues and participate in root cause analysis for material discrepancies.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and proper lifting technique.
  • Maintain clean, organized and safe work areas where material is stored and moved out on the production floor.
  • Maintain awareness and report to leaders’ potential safety hazards.
  • Work closely with team members, supervisors, engineers, and quality control personnel to address challenges and improve processes.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing to report issues and provide updates.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace.
  • Store tools and equipment properly.
  • Work overtime as needed to meet production goals.
  • Crosstrain in other areas and adjust to new processes or technologies.

Requirements

The following are the minimum requirements for the Material Specialist role:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 6 months to 1 year of material handling and inventory experience
  • Familiarity with material handling and inventory control
  • Basic computer literacy

Preferred qualifications include:

  • 1+ years of material movement and inventory experience
  • Forklift operations

Physical Demands

The Material Specialist role requires the following physical demands:

  • Manual dexterity, including ability to handle material and parts
  • Repetitive motion, including performing repetitive motions such as bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping, lifting, gripping, and grasping with hands
  • Standing duration, including ability to stand for up to 10 hours per shift
  • Lifting requirements, including ability to lift up to 35 lbs
  • Environmental exposure, including ability to work in environments with noise, chemicals, dust, sharp objects, moving/rotating mechanical parts, and temperature extremes

Pay

The expected Base Hourly Range for the Material Specialist role is $18.50-$28.85. The actual compensation will be determined based on experience and other factors permitted by law. This role is also bonus eligible.
