About the role

This role involves research and development support focused on developing novel slags containing rare earth element byproducts for electroslag remelting of steels and nickel-based superalloys.

Responsibilities

  • Characterize microstructures using advanced microscopy techniques (SEM, EDS, EBSD, EPMA)
  • Computationally design and evaluate slag compositions
  • Write technical reports and present findings
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and geologists

Qualifications

  • Master’s or PhD in Material Science and Engineering
  • Experience in microstructure characterization, data analysis, and understanding of microstructure-property relationships in nickel and iron-based alloys

Preferred skills

  • Knowledge of electroslag remelting
  • Experience with thermodynamic simulation software
  • Alloy design experience
  • Record of peer-reviewed publications
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently or within a team
