About the role
This role involves research and development support focused on developing novel slags containing rare earth element byproducts for electroslag remelting of steels and nickel-based superalloys.
Responsibilities
- Characterize microstructures using advanced microscopy techniques (SEM, EDS, EBSD, EPMA)
- Computationally design and evaluate slag compositions
- Write technical reports and present findings
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and geologists
Qualifications
- Master’s or PhD in Material Science and Engineering
- Experience in microstructure characterization, data analysis, and understanding of microstructure-property relationships in nickel and iron-based alloys
Preferred skills
- Knowledge of electroslag remelting
- Experience with thermodynamic simulation software
- Alloy design experience
- Record of peer-reviewed publications
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently or within a team
