Temporary, non-exempt position in the Donated Goods department, reporting to the Director of DG Growth and Logistics.
Mission Contribution
Helps with the flow of goods through the bargain store and salvage departments to minimize waste and maximize profits that help to fund services to the community and create jobs.
Responsibilities
- Operates the textile baler after equipment training is received.
- Bundles an average of 9 bales daily and transports completed bales to shipping area using forklift vehicle.
- Notifies supervisor when necessary to order baling supplies or when baling machine needs service/repair.
- Assists route drivers with loading and unloading of bins and totes.
- Stacks pallets; arranges materials as directed while adhering to safety guidelines.
- Assists in shoveling loose household debris from around the outside dumpster and compactor on a daily basis or as needed.
- Transfers material from storage to the baler and the Bargain store production area.
- Assists the Bargain Store associates as needed.
- Observes safety procedures and personnel policies.
- Regular attendance is required as outlined in Goodwill’s attendance policy.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements
- Must be forklift certified or obtain certification within 14 days of hire.
- Must be able to interact cordially and productively with a variety of people.
- Must be able to market Goodwill and explain the mission to the general public.
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English—enough to keep logs updated.
- Must be able to keep information confidential.
- Must establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisor and co-workers.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends.
- Must be a hands-on person with a strong sense of ownership and a “get things done” attitude.
- Must be proactive, operate with a sense of urgency, focus, and discipline.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
- Prior experience working in a warehouse environment preferred.
- Prior forklift experience in a warehouse environment preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to engage in frequent bending, stretching, stooping, and prolonged standing, walking, and twisting.
- Ability to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. frequently, 75 lbs. regularly, and 100+ lbs. with assistance occasionally.
- Ability to push equipment on wheels weighing 50 lbs. to 150 lbs.
- Ability to use fingers, hands, and wrists repetitively.
Working Conditions
- Considerable physical exertion.
- Exposure to soiled and damaged donated goods materials.
- Exposure to a variety of weather conditions (extreme heat, cold, rain, etc.).

Position Details
Temporary positions for up to 90 days, with the expectation of conversion to regular positions after 90 days based on work performance, work ethic, and cultural fit.
