Material Handler - Team Lead (3rd Shift)

Pay

Total hourly compensation: $25.40/hr, including a base wage of $24.15/hr plus a $1.25/hr shift differential. Paid weekly.

Summary pay range: $24.15 - $30.98.

Schedule

Openings available on 3rd Shift: 10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. Overtime opportunities may be available on a voluntary basis, subject to business needs and prior leader authorization.

Responsibilities

• Prioritize safety to prevent injuries, occupational illnesses, and safety incidents.
• Provide coverage for team member absences and production fluctuations to support material handling for PQVC goals.
• Lead daily production activities, including updating daily and weekly metric whiteboards, adjusting manpower, and participating in production dialogs with management.
• Coordinate and prioritize work to meet production schedules.
• Maintain electronic and manual documentation for labor hours, process work orders, and production records.
• Collaborate with support functions to resolve issues related to safety, quality, process, delivery, equipment, fixtures, tools, and product/layout changes.
• Identify, document, communicate, and correct material handling problems; recommend solutions.
• Drive continuous improvement by identifying, sustaining, and emphasizing standard work.
• Train and develop employees on job skills, problem-solving, and cross-training; provide recognition for contributions.
• Support team PQVC initiatives and daily activities in alignment with Caterpillar’s Code of Conduct and Values in Action.
• Work effectively in a team environment with limited supervision.
• Provide input for employee reviews and participate in special projects as needed.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 months of intermediate computer usage for tracking and communications.
• Experience driving material handling equipment (e.g., counterbalance, turret, reach, picker).
• Minimum of 3 months of experience using SAP, Mach 1, or similar systems.
• Work history or attached resume must be included.

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Prior leadership experience.
• Heavy manufacturing group experience.
• Strong understanding of lean principles, quality systems, and production processes.
• Ability to read standard work, prints, and write continuous improvement cards.
• Proficiency in using computers/scanners for material movement and production transactions.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead and instruct employees in a fast-paced production environment.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently lift up to 35 lbs.
• Work at multiple heights and climb on material handling equipment.
• Sit or stand for the majority of an 8-hour shift with minimal breaks.
• Exposure to magnets that may impact medical devices.
• Kneel, squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions, including forward/lateral reach, overhead reaching, twisting, and neck rotation.
• Work in tight spaces and perform repetitive grasping, pushing, pulling, and rotating motions.
• Use fine motor skills and hand tools, including band cutters and box cutters.

Work Environment

• Limited exposure to welding fumes and noise levels of 85 dB or greater.
• Operate overhead cranes, jib cranes, and hoists.
• Work in environments with frequently changing temperatures.
