About the role

A Material Handler is responsible for the movement of material into and out of the warehouse in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner, using industrial lift trucks and other material handling equipment as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Pick and deliver material to manufacturing as directed, using the Gentex inventory and warehouse control system.
  • Perform receiving and shipping functions using the Gentex inventory and warehouse control system.
  • Perform necessary transactional functions related to inventory receipts, issues, put-aways, and shipments using the Gentex inventory and warehouse control system.
  • Operate material handling equipment to load/unload trucks, as well as put away/pick material.
  • Perform area housekeeping.
  • Make trips for supplies and pick-ups, as assigned.
  • Assist team members in the attainment of team goals by substituting and assisting in areas where help is needed, including production.
  • Perform periodic cycle counts as directed and assist in reconciliation of record variances through investigation of inventory history and related transactions.
  • Conduct physical inventories as scheduled.
  • Monitor and improve key measurements: 99.95% minimum inventory record accuracy, transaction accuracy and efficiency, safety when operating industrial lift trucks, response time for internal and external customers, and shipping-related performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Ability to obtain certification and operate all material handling equipment, including industrial lift trucks.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic.
  • Moderate to heavy physical lifting, up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to maneuver in or around equipment.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around for the entirety of the scheduled work shift.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks requiring frequent repetitive bending, reaching, squatting, or positioning the body to load and unload materials from racks, skids, and carts of varying heights.
  • Ability to obtain a basic understanding of the Gentex inventory and warehouse control system, which uses computerized records and bar code scanning technology.
  • Must be a team player.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of manufacturing or material handling experience (preferred).

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be exposed to:

  • Moving mechanical parts
  • Raw glass
  • Repetitive movements
  • Hazardous materials (e.g., flammable, toxic, or corrosive chemicals)

The work environment is temperature-controlled, and the noise level is usually moderate. Team members will be provided with personal protective equipment as needed to protect against identified hazards and promote a safe work environment. Manufacturing work environments require constant vigilance and compliance with safety best practices, policies, and procedures.
