Material Handler

About the role

Bowhead is seeking a reliable and motivated Material Handler to support the Engineering and Prototype Shop at the Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD).

Responsibilities

• Receiving and unloading materials from delivery trucks
• Organizing and staging raw materials in designated areas
• Cutting materials to specified lengths using a band saw, as directed
• Safely operating forklifts, pallet jacks, and hand trucks to move materials throughout the shop
• Using standard measuring tools, including dial calipers and tape measures, to verify dimensions
• Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe shop environment
• Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Must have a valid driver's license
• Must have a high school diploma
• Must have at least one (1) year of experience with material handling operations
• Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds, stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, and be able to twist, bend, and squat periodically
• Must be able to read, write, and speak English
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the Secret level; U.S. citizenship is a requirement for a Secret clearance at this location

Qualifications

• Prior experience in a manufacturing or fabrication setting is preferred
• Basic level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, and Outlook
• Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints
• Capable of using standard measuring tools such as dial calipers and tape measures
• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees, customers, and management, and respond to instructions/assignments
• Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team

Pay

SCA Material Handler pay at $17.76 per hour, plus $5.09 per hour for H&W (Health and Welfare).
