Material Handler

Responsibilities

• Use remotely controlled overhead cranes to stack and unstack steel plate
• Load and unload steel plate on conveyor systems
• Load and unload steel plate onto trucks and rail cars
• Use burning equipment and hand grinders to cut and prepare plate samples for testing
• Tag and mark steel plate
• Enter data into computer systems
• Operate forklift
• Perform additional responsibilities as directed by the front-line supervisor

Requirements

• Ability to work in environments subject to fluctuations in heat, humidity, fumes, odors, dust, and noise
• Able to accurately enter data into computers without transposing figures
• Able to read and follow procedures and technical manuals
• Think ahead and plan work in a fast-paced setting
• Able to work independently
• Able to regularly lift up to 50 pounds
• Good math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, accurate number identification)
• Able to work 12-hour rotating shifts
• Quickly coordinate hand motions with overhead crane operation
• Comfortable working in high places

Preferred Experience

• Operating a remote-controlled crane in a fast-paced environment
• 2–5 years industrial experience
• Experience in a position requiring planning out work
