About the role

A Material Handler is responsible for locating and loading customer product onto or from pallets, trays, racks, and shelves using hand tools and non-motorized equipment. The role involves counting, weighing, and recording materials, as well as specialized order processing tasks such as stenciling, shrink wrapping, labeling, and consolidating orders. Additional duties include preparing trailers for loading, assisting in building and grounds maintenance, and participating in physical inventories.

Responsibilities

  • Pulling Orders:
    • Accurately locate and load customer product by hand and with non-motorized equipment according to established procedures and safety regulations.
    • Count, weigh, and record the number of units of materials handled on a daily production sheet.
    • Complete specialized order processing tasks such as stenciling, shrink wrapping, labeling, and consolidating as required.
  • Loading & Unloading:
    • Remove samples of materials, label them with identifying information, and take them to a laboratory for analysis before loading.
    • Load picked orders according to customer-generated Loading Diagrams or instructions, completing paperwork such as Bill of Lading, Pick Report, Trailer Audit, and Lot Verification.
    • Unload, move, stack, and stage customer products and materials by hand and with non-motorized equipment, keeping appropriate records and reports.
  • Operating & Maintenance - Equipment and Grounds:
    • Daily inspect, repair, or make adjustments to tow-motor vehicles before operating, following safety and maintenance instructions.
    • Prepare trailers prior to loading by inspecting and cleaning as needed to ensure product preservation.
    • Assist in building and grounds maintenance to ensure the facility is clean, neat, safe, and orderly.
  • Reports:
    • Complete activity and statistical reports as assigned by a supervisor.
    • Assist in physical inventories, ensuring the facility and contents are secure.
  • Miscellaneous:
    • Perform housekeeping activities, assemble crates to contain products, and move loose materials to containers as directed.
    • Participate in all Safety and 5S requirements.
  • Key Results:
    • Apply the APL Logistics Continuous Improvement (ACI) Model to improve operational efficiency, increase proficiency, and eliminate waste.
    • Apply the 5S Lean methodology to sustain a safe, clean, and orderly facility.
    • Meet and occasionally exceed company standards for safety, food safety, sanitation, quality, productivity, and customer service.

Requirements

  • 1-2 years of warehouse or related work experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend basic instructions, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures.
  • Ability to operate non-motorized equipment, conveyor systems, Warehouse Management Systems, and packing material systems.
  • Basic math skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to write legibly and communicate professionally and positively.
  • Proficiency in English.
  • Must be a team player.

Pay

The hourly wage for this position is $20.50.
