About the role
The Material Flow and Lineside Planning Intern supports logistics planning initiatives across the plant, including series changes and new vehicle launches in assembly halls, bodyshop, and logistics innovation projects. Multiple positions focus on different plant areas.
Responsibilities
- Support implementation of autonomous logistics vehicles in the plant
- Run weekly/monthly reporting documents
- Organize and support lineside transitions for series packages
- Perform logistics parts list checks and maintenance
- Plan headcount for logistics processes during new vehicle launches
- Plan floor space for part storage (high bay racking, block storage, supermarkets)
- Plan material flow deliveries for future derivatives
- Maintain BMW layouts using layout software
- Participate in Future Model Evaluation Runs
- Enhance dashboards for KPI reporting
- Plan implementation of Smart Transport Robots (STRs), autonomous tugger trains, autonomous forklifts, and autonomous yard hostlers
- Evaluate use cases, plan routes, points of interest, and call-off processes
- Create KPI tracking for performance
- Support fault resolution
Requirements
- Enrolled student status at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States
- Completed at least 30 credit hours at time of application
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 (not just in major)
- Transfer students must have a GPA from current university
- Ability to work full-time on-site (40 hours / week)
- Must pass a substance abuse test before the work term
Qualifications
- Pursuing a degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Detail-oriented and self-starter
- Programming knowledge preferred
