General Summary & Scope

The Master Stylist engages with guests, consults on hair care needs, and recommends products and services. They deliver quality professional services with an emphasis on the guest’s total look, supporting the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) through a focus on performance, guest service, and operational compliance. This role requires a passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and the ability to learn and communicate product knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Perform hair services including hair design, haircuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Meet or exceed sales goals of $1,250 average weekly sales and productivity goals for hair services by delivering exceptional guest service; contribute to store goals for retail and service sales, guest loyalty, and retail shrink.
• Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest service experience.
• Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to deliver an unrivaled guest experience.
• Stay informed about new and existing industry trends, products, and services during work time; communicate their benefits to guests.
• Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
• Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations.
• Serve all guests, including walk-ins, in a timely and efficient manner.
• Collaborate with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a well-rounded guest experience.
• Build professional peer and brand partner relationships to foster exceptional guest experiences.
• Promote the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
• Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for continuous professional development.
• Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
• Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services; comply with state board guidelines.
• Utilize established service protocols to ensure a consistent and exceptional guest experience.
• Use booking and clientele systems to schedule return services and events.
• Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness.
• Maintain cleanliness of the salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and any assigned areas.
• Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code and loss prevention best practices.
• Protect company assets by providing exceptional guest service.
• Execute other operational tasks as directed.

Requirements

• Cosmetology license.
• Previous relevant work experience.
• Proficiency with latest salon techniques for haircutting, haircolor, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (where applicable).
• Proficiency with salon equipment and chemicals.
• Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell pro hair care and makeup products.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.
• Flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Working Conditions

• Continuous mobility during shift.

• Frequent bending, reaching, and twisting during shift.
• Ability to stand for long periods during shift.
• Continuous coordination and manipulation of objects during shift.

Pay

The pay range for this position is the higher of $14.81 - $20.20 per hour or services pay for the workweek pursuant to the Company’s Services Compensation Plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by applicable law and tips paid by service guests.
