General Summary & Scope
The Master Stylist engages with guests to consult on hair care needs, recommend products and services, and deliver quality professional services. This role supports the Experience Manager (SM) and Assistant Services Manager (ASM) by focusing on performance (service sales and productivity), guest service, and adherence to operational procedures. A passion for the beauty industry, exceptional guest service, and a commitment to learning and communicating product knowledge are essential.
Responsibilities
- Perform hair services including hair design, haircuts, color, texture, treatments, styling, updos, perms, blowouts, keratin treatments, extensions, makeup applications, and ear piercing (where applicable).
- Meet or exceed sales goals of $1,250 average weekly sales and productivity targets for hair services by delivering exceptional guest service. Contribute to store goals for retail and service sales, guest loyalty (including credit), and retail shrink.
- Perform product demonstrations to drive sales and enhance the guest service experience.
- Support in-store events, promotions, and marketing initiatives to deliver an unrivaled guest experience.
- Stay informed about new and existing industry trends, products, and services during work time. Be knowledgeable about ingredients and benefits to better serve guests.
- Maintain prompt, regular attendance.
- Develop guest relationships through consultations and appropriate retail and service recommendations.
- Serve all guests, including walk-ins, in a timely and efficient manner.
- Collaborate with skin therapists and the retail team to provide a well-rounded guest experience.
- Build professional relationships with peers and brand partners to deliver exceptional guest experiences.
- Promote the benefits of the guest loyalty program, including credit and the Ulta Beauty app.
- Attend mandatory trainings and meetings for continuous professional development.
- Ensure compliance with Ulta Beauty’s policies, procedures, and standards.
- Follow all safety, sanitation, and infection control procedures before, during, and after services, adhering to state board guidelines.
- Utilize established service protocols to ensure a consistent and exceptional guest experience.
- Use booking and clientele systems to schedule return services and events.
- Communicate supply needs to the Experience Manager to ensure guest readiness.
- Maintain cleanliness of the salon, salesfloor, restrooms, backroom, break area, and any assigned areas.
- Adhere to the Ulta Beauty dress code.
- Follow loss prevention best practices and provide exceptional guest service to protect company assets.
- Perform other operational tasks as directed.
Requirements
- Cosmetology license.
- Previous relevant work experience.
- Proficiency with latest salon techniques for haircutting, haircolor, lightening, styling, texture, treatment, extensions, makeup, and ear piercing (where applicable). Aptitude to develop skills in all service categories.
- Proficiency with salon equipment and chemicals.
- Ability to demonstrate, recommend, and sell pro hair care and makeup products.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships and clientele.
Special Position Requirements
Work a flexible schedule to include days, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions

Pay
The pay range for this position is the higher of $14.81 - $20.20 per hour or services pay for the workweek pursuant to the Company’s Services Compensation Plan. Exact pay will be based on factors including education, qualifications, certifications, experience, level, shift, geographic location, and business needs. Eligible associates may also earn overtime pay as required by applicable law and tips paid by service guests.
