Master's University Grad Data Scientist (USA)
About the role
At Pinterest, AI isn't just a feature, it's a powerful partner that augments our creativity and amplifies our impact. With more than 640 million users around the world and 300 billion ideas saved, Pinterest Machine Learning engineers help build personalized experiences to help Pinners create a life they love. You'll experience hands-on access to an incredible vault of data and contribute large-scale recommendation systems in ways you won't find anywhere else.
By applying to this role, you will be considered for multiple roles open across our various data science teams. We're looking for a Data Scientist to help evolve and shape the future of our product — inspiring Pinners and connecting them with actionable content, understanding advertisers and measuring the value Pinterest provides to them, and enabling our employees to evaluate potential product changes faster than ever before. You'll apply quantitative analysis, statistical techniques, modeling and data mining while working cross-functionally with engineering and product partners. The results of your work will influence the team roadmap, identify actionable product opportunities, refine our experimentation platform, and drive key initiatives, turning your insights and analyses into real-world products.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to our product roadmap and mission — to bring everyone the inspiration to create a life they love — using data and exploratory analysis to understand user behavior and trends, and identify opportunities for product innovation.
- Design and implement core metrics that guide the team efforts and help design and evaluate A/B experiments that drive these metrics.
- Explore alternative experimentation techniques to help internal teams evaluate their ideas faster.
- Work cross-functionally to build and communicate key insights, and collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, designers, and researchers to help build the next experiences on Pinterest.
Requirements
- Master's degree in statistics, mathematics, economics, applied sciences, computer science or related field.
- Ability to manipulate large data sets with high dimensionality and complexity; fluency in SQL and a scripting language (Python or R).
- Experience solving analytical problems using quantitative approaches including in the fields of Machine Learning, Statistical Modeling, Forecasting, Econometrics or other related fields.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain learnings to both technical and non-technical partners.
- Strong critical thinking when working with AI-generated suggestions, with a clear approach to validating correctness, performance, security, and maintainability.
- Ability to connect data analysis to real business problems, in order to impact business performance.
Work arrangement
We let the type of work you do guide the collaboration style. That means we're not always working in an office, but we continue to gather for key moments of collaboration and connection. This role may require you to be located near an office for in-person collaboration, and therefore may need to be located a commutable distance from one of our Pinterest offices.
