Master Maintenance Repair Worker

Under general supervision, perform skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled maintenance work on buildings, athletic fields, exercise equipment, vehicles, and other equipment. Serve as team leader and train others in proper work methods and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform installations, repairs, and replacements of internal/external campus structures and facilities, including roofs, flooring, walls, windows, doors, and furniture.
• Maintain, repair, and replace plumbing equipment; open clogged drains; plan, inspect, and maintain records of maintenance concerns; research and order repair parts and supplies.
• Repair and install lighting, switches, and outlets; replace defective breakers and fuses; perform general maintenance on electrical systems.
• Follow a predetermined schedule of preventative maintenance for building systems, including HVAC equipment; change filters, belts, and grease equipment; troubleshoot and fix equipment as needed.
• Perform masonry, concrete, painting, welding, and sheet metal work as required.
• Assist in ordering supplies, monitor buildings for potential problems, coordinate work with other trades, and complete work, time, and material usage reports.
• Provide guidance to nonexempt staff, including general scheduling, assigning tasks, and monitoring work, as assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Valid Ohio Driver’s License and a Journeyman’s Certification.
• Completion of the 3-year University of Akron or other State-Approved Sponsored Apprenticeship Program for Trade or a minimum of 8 years of mechanic trades experience.
• Ability to operate and use standard powered and non-powered tools (e.g., hammers, saws, drills, jackhammers, core drills, circular saws, hammer drills).
• Proficiency in trade-related mathematics (fractions, ratios, percentages).
• Ability to read, write, and accurately follow oral, written, and graphic instructions.
• Ability to work independently, solve problems, and use judgment in determining correct courses of action.
• Prior experience leading others preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to lift 80 pounds without assistance.
• Ability to bend, crouch, and lift repeatedly.
• Must be able to climb ladders, scaffolding, and work on rooftops.

Working Conditions

• Routine exposure to heat, cold, moisture/wetness, inclement weather, noise, air pollution, and heights.
• May involve exposure to chemical substances, hazards, and moving parts.
• Work schedule subject to change based on university needs; overtime and call-ins may be mandatory.

Pay

Starting pay: $22.92/hour. After one year: $23.83/hour.

Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM (days off Saturday and Sunday).
