About the Role

Southland (SLND) is standing up a new electrical contracting division to serve hyperscale data center, industrial, and mission-critical clients across the Southwest, with our first project based in Santa Teresa, New Mexico. We're looking for a Master Electrician to serve as our New Mexico Qualifying Party (QP) — a ground-floor role for someone who wants to build a licensed operation, a team, and a client base from day one, backed by a century-old infrastructure company.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the company's Qualifying Party (QP) for New Mexico electrical licensing
  • Hold overall responsibility for code compliance, permitting, and inspections across all jobsites
  • Establish the division's operating standards, QA/QC processes, and safety procedures
  • Recruit, mentor, and build out project managers, superintendents, foremen, and electricians
  • Build and maintain relationships with owners, general contractors, and the utility on interconnect matters
  • Grow into a senior leadership role — VP or General Manager of Electrical — as the division scales

Requirements

  • Current New Mexico CID Master Electrician certification and eligible to serve as Qualifying Party (EE-98), or immediately eligible to become one
  • 10+ years of commercial/industrial electrical experience, including crew and project leadership
  • Strong working knowledge of the NEC and New Mexico CID inspection process
  • Able to recruit, mentor, and build out field supervision and electricians

Preferred Qualifications

  • Candidates who also hold, or are eligible to obtain, the New Mexico CID EL-1 classification (electrical distribution and transmission systems over 5,000V) are strongly preferred. Our data center work includes medium-voltage utility interconnects and primary distribution, and EL-1 lets a single QP cover that scope directly rather than routing it to a subcontracted lineman crew. We will also consider candidates without EL-1 who have a credible plan to obtain it or partner on that scope.
  • Data centers or other mission-critical / redundant power environments
  • Medium-voltage distribution, underground duct banks, and switchgear
  • Generators, UPS systems, and paralleling switchgear
  • Telecom/fiber infrastructure and controls/instrumentation

Benefits

This is a ground-floor opportunity to help shape a new division from day one — not a title, but a real stake in building something lasting. You'll have the backing of an established heavy civil and infrastructure organization with 100+ years of history, while having the autonomy to build licensing, standards, and a team from the ground up, with a clear path to senior leadership as the division scales.
