Master Electrician

About the Role

The Master Electrician is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing all types of electrical and electronic equipment with a focus on improving equipment reliability. This role ensures electrical work meets safety standards and supports production operations. The Master Electrician’s license will be actively used to perform and oversee electrical work within the facility. This position also involves working with the Apprenticeship program for Electrical Journeymen.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to all MIOSHA and NECA safety regulations.
• Obtain necessary permits with Muskegon County or other regulatory entities using the Master Electrician’s license.
• Install, maintain, and repair all types of electrical and electronic equipment, focusing on improving equipment reliability.
• Inspect, repair, replace, install, adjust, maintain, and test high-voltage and low-voltage utility systems, equipment, transformers, switchgear, and distribution systems.
• Test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in wiring, equipment, and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters and voltmeters to ensure compatibility and safety.
• Install conduit, piping, wiring, and apparatus for maintenance of electrical utilities.
• Diagnose complex equipment failures, troubleshoot root causes, and develop solutions using prints, sketches, manuals, diagnostic equipment, and machinery knowledge.
• Install and service VFDs, fuse blocks, fuses, relays, and other electrical field devices.
• Troubleshoot and repair/replace malfunctioning motors, motor controls, and disconnects.
• Troubleshoot and repair/replace contactors, relays, limit switches, momentary switches, etc.
• Safely troubleshoot, operate, and repair complex equipment, including Process Logic Controller systems.
• Apply knowledge of electrical control, electronic systems, process controllers, industrial instrumentation, and combustion systems.
• Complete work in a timely manner, often without direct supervision, and organize work for maximum efficiency.
• Adjust work priorities based on plant needs and business requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Journeyman Master Electrician or ability to obtain a UAW Card within the first 90 days of employment.
• Active Master Electrician license.
• Industrial experience, including knowledge of motor control, relay logic, PLC logic, and computer-based motor and process control systems.
• Eligibility to obtain a Security Clearance.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings and schematics.
• Excellent technical, communication, and presentation skills.
• Ability to meet physical requirements of the job, including lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, and lifting.
• Flexible hours, including overtime and occasional weekends.
• Demonstrated personal leadership and a positive, can-do attitude.
• Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
