Massage Therapist per diem

About the Role

The Integrative Therapy Department is seeking a patient-centered, customer service-focused Licensed Massage Therapist. This per diem position involves working with a team of skilled massage therapists and acupuncturists to provide a compassionate and holistic approach to enhance patient care throughout the hospital, Cancer Center, and outpatient locations.

Responsibilities

• Work as a team member to ensure a smooth, customer-friendly process for client/patient appointments.
• Collaborate with the manager and co-workers to validate the therapist's work schedule at least 3 months in advance.
• Coordinate with other departments/staff (e.g., Central Scheduling, Birth Center, SDS) involved in scheduling clients/patients for massage and/or Reiki.
• Keep the manager informed of problems or concerns regarding client/patient appointments.
• Demonstrate understanding and appropriate use of the web-based scheduling program.
• Provide therapeutic massage/bodywork with competence, ensuring appropriate draping for client privacy and good use of body mechanics.
• Ask clients about allergies to skin care products (oils, creams, lotions) and/or scents prior to use.
• Demonstrate/describe Reiki hand positions appropriate for inpatient Reiki treatment versus Reiki within a massage context.
• Modify massage/bodywork for clients of various ages (youth to elder) and medical conditions (cancer, pregnancy, etc.).
• Assess each client's individual needs/preferences for touch and pressure, adjusting strokes accordingly.
• Utilize all equipment and supplies safely, following protocol and considering safety and infection control.
• Use comfort, relaxation, and wellness modalities (e.g., Reiki, clinical aromatherapy, deep breathing, music, imagery, stretching) to enhance care.
• Create a relaxing, healing environment during each patient/client encounter using gentle touch, reassurance, humor, music, nature imagery, and/or aromatherapy.
• Ensure privacy and confidentiality for each patient/client.
• Take actions to enhance safety for clients and self, including handling unexpected/emergency events (e.g., falls, seizures, unresponsiveness).
• Describe major contra-indications for massage and discuss potential adverse reactions.
• Provide outstanding customer service in oral and written communications, including educating clients on self-care and wellness techniques.
• Discuss the importance of feedback with every client and at every appointment.
• Before providing massage, discuss the client's needs and expectations, update pertinent client information/history, and obtain consent.
• Ensure written documentation is clear, concise, and includes subjective & objective client information, treatment details, client responses, and therapist's signature.
• Validate physician's orders and the patient's current condition before providing massage to a hospitalized patient.
• Demonstrate competence in the use of equipment and supplies, including setup, cleaning, and storage following manufacturer's guidelines.
• Communicate ideas or concerns about massage equipment/supplies to the manager in a timely manner.
• Notify the manager when supplies (e.g., oils, lotions, crèmes, light bulbs) are running low.
• Develop strong relationships within the department and across the organization.
• Actively participate in staff meetings and committees to increase department visibility and suggest service enhancements.
• Manage your caseload of patient/clients and/or patient care areas.
• Network with other departments and practices to enhance relationships and service delivery.
• Develop positive relations with volunteers as valued team members.
• Manage all monetary transactions with sensitivity, honesty, and competence regarding fee-for-service and billing procedures.
• Follow hospital policies regarding not accepting tips/gratuity for services rendered.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the massage fee structure and accurately collect payments (cash, checks, payroll deduction, charge cards).
• Sell massage gift certificates.
• Function as a team player to enhance/expand massage services and other Integrative Therapy Department offerings.
• Expand self-knowledge and provide education consistent with LMT scope of practice.
• Discuss ideas for improving massage services and concerns about the service with the manager.
• Participate in employee and community education (e.g., teach Joint Camp, stress reduction classes).
• Teach co-workers new service modalities.
• Seek ideas to improve massage from other LMTs, professional meetings, and literature.
• Provide patient/clients with education in self-care and general wellness using evidence-based references.
• Stay updated about other Integrative Therapy services and educational offerings.
• Engage in self-learning and seek new ideas to enhance service offerings.
• Participate in Integrative Therapy marketing, promotion, and development of new services.
• Demonstrate competency in describing and answering questions about all Integrative Therapy service offerings, including locations and associated fees.
• Collaborate with the manager and co-workers to create/update brochures, fliers, poster displays, gift certificates, articles for newsletters, and other publications.
• Network with other staff/departments/practices to enhance Integrative Therapies visibility (e.g., provide chair massage in other departments, sell gift certificates at Benefits Fair).

Requirements

• New Hampshire LMT license.
• AHA or ARC BLS certification within 2 weeks of hire.
• Graduated from an accredited school providing therapeutic massage/bodywork training (technical school or college).
• Minimum of 6 to 12 months experience providing massage (as a student or licensed practitioner).
• Good communication skills (verbal & written), including customer service and basic computer skills.

Qualifications (Preferred/Desired)

• 2-3 years' experience as an LMT.
• Experience in a healthcare setting (not necessarily as an LMT).
• Additional coursework, certification, or experience in other integrative modalities (e.g., yoga, reflexology, music, tai chi, art).
• Reiki Level I & II training; Reiki Master preferred.
• Evidence of good communication skills, organization, friendliness, and engagement.
• Ability to function with minimal supervision, public speaking skills, and positive representation of employer programs.
• Resourcefulness, creativity, and initiative to engage with leadership.

Schedule

This is a per diem, onsite position located at 158 Route 108, with a work shift during the day.
