About the Role

Performs a variety of duties relating to handling, preparing, storing, and serving Kosher meals to assure compliance with Jewish dietary laws.

Responsibilities

• Handles food and utensils to ensure conformity with Jewish dietary laws.
• Receives food and supplies for use in preparation of Kosher meals; checks invoices and supervises storage procedures.
• Checks ingredients of packaged foods used in Kosher food service to ensure conformity with Jewish dietary laws.
• Secures foods and supplies needed from storage area (i.e., freezer, refrigerator, pantry) and issues items to cooks and dietary aides for Kosher meal preparation.
• Utilizes proper procedures relative to handling and preparing foods to comply with Jewish dietary laws.
• Examines pots, pans, and utensils for proper insignia (i.e., “F” or “M”).
• Marks new equipment and takes to mikvah for ritual purification.
• Prepares silverware, utensils, trays, etc. for Kosher food service.
• Stocks Kosher Dining Room for meals with utensils, supplies, condiments, beverages, etc.
• Serves and transports Kosher meals.
• Transfers food truck to and from Kosher Kitchen, Kosher Dining Room, and patient areas.
• Provides to patients, upon request, any special items such as electric candelabra, grape juice, challah, etc. for religious observances, on Shabbos, and other religious holidays.
• Serves meals to staff and patients’ families as required or assigned.
• Tallies menus for Kosher meals requested by patients and orders from Kosher Kitchen.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Prior experience in a kosher kitchen with kosher dietary laws.

Pay

$17/hour
