About the Role
Performs a variety of duties relating to handling, preparing, storing, and serving Kosher meals to assure compliance with Jewish dietary laws.
Responsibilities
- Handles food and utensils to ensure conformity with Jewish dietary laws.
- Receives food and supplies for use in preparation of Kosher meals; checks invoices and supervises storage procedures.
- Checks ingredients of packaged foods used in Kosher food service to ensure conformity with Jewish dietary laws.
- Secures foods and supplies needed from storage area (i.e., freezer, refrigerator, pantry) and issues items to cooks and dietary aides for Kosher meal preparation.
- Utilizes proper procedures relative to handling and preparing foods to comply with Jewish dietary laws.
- Examines pots, pans, and utensils for proper insignia (i.e., “F” or “M”).
- Marks new equipment and takes to mikvah for ritual purification.
- Prepares silverware, utensils, trays, etc. for Kosher food service.
- Stocks Kosher Dining Room for meals with utensils, supplies, condiments, beverages, etc.
- Serves and transports Kosher meals.
- Transfers food truck to and from Kosher Kitchen, Kosher Dining Room, and patient areas.
- Provides to patients, upon request, any special items such as electric candelabra, grape juice, challah, etc. for religious observances, on Shabbos, and other religious holidays.
- Serves meals to staff and patients’ families as required or assigned.
- Tallies menus for Kosher meals requested by patients and orders from Kosher Kitchen.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Prior experience in a kosher kitchen with kosher dietary laws.
Pay
$17/hour
