Marriage and Family Therapist - Readjustment Counselor

About the role

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.

Responsibilities

• Screens and assesses eligible individuals to establish a therapeutic relationship sufficient for completing all required readjustment counseling intake procedures, including an assessment of risk for self-harm and psychosocial functioning.
• Develops and updates an individualized readjustment counseling service plan that includes a course of therapeutic and psychosocial interventions, achievable goals, and measurable outcomes.
• Implements the individualized counseling plan through various forms of individual, group, couple, and family readjustment counseling, maintaining an effective therapeutic relationship with clients.
• Applies risk assessment procedures during initial assessment and periodically throughout the planned course of readjustment counseling, developing safety plans for individuals identified as intermediate to high risk.
• Maintains a network of community care relationships and coordinates access to readjustment counseling services through referrals to the Vet Center, ensuring eligible individuals and family members receive the full spectrum of services needed for readjustment.
• Coordinates with Vet Center outreach workers to ensure seamless referral to Vet Center services for individuals and family members engaged in the community at outreach events.
• Participates in Vet Center staff meetings to promote team building and staff development through co-planning and problem-solving, coaching and mentoring new hires.
• Documents all clinical interactions and episodes of care coordination as required by RCS policy, providing consultation services to other staff and community partners.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm, Some evenings and weekends required based on the needs of the Vet Center.

Qualifications

• Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship, English Language Proficiency, Education, Licensure.
• Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs): Human development, interventions based on research and family systems theory, formal diagnostic criteria, risk assessment, evidence-based practice, and assessment tools.
• Assignments: Provide mental health services under clinical supervision, not practicing at an independent level.
